The fluorescent lights of the library hummed with a sterile indifference that mirrored the transactional nature of the relationships forming within Argentum's hallowed halls. It was late October, and the initial shock of arrival had worn off, replaced by the grinding reality of coursework and the subtle, pervasive hierarchy that dictated every interaction. Evan, hunched over a textbook on ancient Roman governance – a subject he devoured with the same intensity he applied to everything – felt the familiar itch of impatience. He was here to build an army, not to memorize dates.

He’d spent the past month observing, cataloguing, and subtly nudging. Daniel, his roommate, remained a steadfast ally, an unwitting companion on this clandestine mission. Their conversations, once focused on coding and economics, now occasionally veered into whispered critiques of the Argentum system, veiled complaints about entitled legacies and the school’s warped priorities. Daniel, ever the pragmatist, readily agreed. “It’s all about who your parents are, isn’t it?” he’d said, scrolling through a list of internship opportunities that seemed to favor legacy applicants. “My dad’s a mid-level accountant. I’m not exactly swimming in donor connections.”

Evan had offered a sympathetic nod, a carefully calibrated response that didn’t betray the true depth of his own resentment. “It’s rigged,” he’d said, his voice low. “But maybe… maybe there are ways to change the game.”
