Chapter 5
The Giant's Gluttony
Leo, ever observant, notices the giant's frustration and his enormous appetite. They realize his weakness: he can't digest anything he tries to swallow whole, a secret that gives them an idea for their final escape.
Leo’s heart hammered against his ribs like a trapped bird. He risked a glance sideways at Max, whose face, usually alight with mischief and curiosity, was now a mask of pure terror. The giant’s shadow, a monstrous, all-consuming darkness, had fallen over them, and the ground trembled with its every lumbering step. The giant’s head was lost in the canopy of ancient trees, its arms like gnarled branches, and its feet were massive boulders that shook the earth with each movement. A gaping maw, lined with teeth like jagged rocks, was opening, and the smell of damp earth and something vaguely unpleasant wafted towards them.
“We have to run, Max!” Leo urged, tugging at his friend’s sleeve. But Max was frozen, his eyes wide, fixed on the monstrous face looming above them.
