Sammy and other children get the first look at the 'Evergreen Dream Machine.' Their delighted reactions validate Claire and Ben's hard work and prove the toy's magical appeal.
Sammy’s eyes, already wide with anticipation, grew to the size of saucers as he approached the contraption. It sat in the cleared-out space in the town square, bathed in the soft glow of fairy lights that seemed to have materialized from thin air, a testament to the town’s collective effort. The ‘Evergreen Dream Machine,’ as Ben had christened it, was a magnificent, if slightly wobbly, symphony of polished wood, whirring gears, and strategically placed mirrors. It looked less like a mass-produced toy and more like something conjured from a particularly whimsical dream.
Claire stood a few feet back, arms crossed, a flicker of something unreadable in her normally steely gaze. She’d spent the last forty-eight hours wrestling with blueprints, sourcing materials, and orchestrating a symphony of controlled chaos, all while trying to ignore the growing knot of something suspiciously like hope in her stomach. Ben, on the other hand, was practically vibrating with nervous excitement, his hands clasped together as if in prayer.
“Alright, Sammy,” Ben announced, his voice a little too loud, a little too cheerful. “This is it. The Evergreen Dream Machine. It… well, it makes dreams.”
