Unlikely Allies
The breakdown forces Claire and Ben to pool their skills. Her logic and his creativity become essential. They start working *with* each other, not against, to find a solution.
The whirring had stopped. The rhythmic clatter that had become the factory’s heartbeat, a sound Claire had initially cataloged as ‘inefficient noise pollution,’ had abruptly ceased. A silence, thick and unnerving, descended. Claire, who had been meticulously calibrating the optimal torque for a toy train’s wheel assembly on her tablet, looked up. Ben, who had been sketching some fantastical new toy contraption with a fervor that bordered on manic, dropped his pencil.
“What was that?” Ben asked, his brow furrowed with genuine concern, not the calculated worry Claire was accustomed to.
A low groan emanated from the main assembly line. Then, a more ominous, metallic shriek. Smoke, thin and wispy at first, began to curl from a panel near the ceiling.
