Mr. Johnson sat in his armchair, the worn leather a familiar comfort, yet his brow was furrowed with a concern that had become a constant companion. Beside him, Mrs. Johnson folded laundry with a quiet efficiency, her movements betraying a similar unease. The earlier conversation about building a peaceful, God-fearing generation had settled into a deeper contemplation, a recognition that the abstract ideals needed concrete examples, particularly when faced with the harsh realities of the world outside their carefully curated home.
"It's not enough to simply *tell* them about goodness, is it, Eleanor?" Mr. Johnson began, his voice a low rumble. "We have to show them the stark contrast, the ruin that follows when goodness is abandoned."
Mrs. Johnson paused, a soft white sheet held between her hands. "You're right, David. We've spoken of honesty, of integrity, of respecting elders and the divine. But the younger generation, they see so much that glorifies the opposite. They see people taking shortcuts, justifying deceit, even celebrating cruelty." Her gaze drifted towards the window, as if she could see the temptations lurking just beyond their garden gate. "We have to make them understand that these things have consequences, real and lasting ones."
