The air in the abandoned warehouse hung thick and heavy, a tangible presence that clung to Leo’s skin like static. Dust motes danced in the single shaft of moonlight that pierced the gloom, illuminating a scene that was both chaotic and strangely beautiful. Scattered across the grimy concrete floor were the remnants of countless nights: empty bottles, discarded flyers advertising events long past, and the ghosts of laughter and thumping bass. This was where it all began, the place where the whispers of the underground had first found purchase in his soul.

He’d followed Anya’s coded message, a series of rhythmic pulses embedded within a seemingly innocuous audio file, to this forgotten corner of the city. It had led him through a labyrinth of back alleys and service tunnels, each step a test, each junction a potential dead end. But the rhythm, that insistent, guiding pulse, had never faltered. Now, standing in the heart of this derelict space, he felt a tremor of anticipation, a familiar hum in his bones that signaled he was on the right track.

Anya was already there, a silhouette against the moonlight. She moved with a fluid grace, her fingers tracing patterns on a weathered turntable as if coaxing secrets from its worn surface. Beside her, a collection of unfamiliar equipment lay scattered, wires snaking across the floor like metallic vines. Leo’s gaze lingered on a peculiar device, a contraption of dials and repurposed microphones, that pulsed with a faint, internal light. It was unlike anything he’d ever seen in a club or studio.
