A Glimpse of Home
From a high vantage point, they spot their town in the distance, a heartbreakingly unreachable sight. The realization of their predicament sinks in deeper.
The dewdrop was a universe unto itself, reflecting a sky of impossible, swirling blues and greens. Max, perched precariously on a blade of grass that felt like a skyscraper, shielded his eyes against the glare. The SCA.B 2K on his wrist hummed softly, a constant reminder of their bizarre reality. Beside him, Hoops bounced on the balls of her feet, her usual exuberance muted by the sheer, overwhelming strangeness of it all. Willow, ever the steady presence, knelt beside Pete, her hand resting reassuringly on his shoulder. Pete, for his part, clutched his worn notebook, its familiar weight a small anchor in this sea of the colossal.
“Anything?” Hoops whispered, her voice barely a breath against the rustling of leaves that sounded like thunder.
Max shook his head, his gaze sweeping across the vast, undulating landscape of what was once familiar grass. “Just more… green. And dirt. So much dirt.” He shivered, despite the mild temperature. The sheer scale of everything was starting to press in on him, a familiar tightness beginning to constrict his chest. He hated enclosed spaces, and while this was technically outdoors, the towering blades of grass felt like walls closing in.
