Chapter 15
Hoops's Bold Idea
Hoops, ever the enthusiast, devises a plan to use a fallen leaf as a makeshift raft to cross a small puddle, showcasing her resourcefulness.
The world, once a familiar tapestry of manicured lawns and cheerful flowerbeds, had become a colossal, untamed wilderness. Every blade of grass was a skyscraper, every pebble a boulder, and the very air thrummed with the magnified sounds of unseen life. For Max, Hoops, Willow, and Pete, the transition from their comfortable existence in Broomhollow to this miniature jungle within Brookhollow Park had been jarring, a sudden plunge into a reality where their ant-like stature made them vulnerable to every rustle of wind and every shadow that fell. They’d navigated the treacherous landscape of a dewdrop, bartered with a surprisingly civil mite, and even hitched a perilous ride on a ladybug’s back. But now, a new obstacle loomed: a shimmering, expansive puddle, impossibly wide and deep from their current perspective, blocking their path forward.

Max, ever the pragmatist, surveyed the expanse with a frown. “We can’t swim it. Not at this size. We’d drown before we got halfway.” His gaze flickered, a familiar unease creeping into his eyes as he thought of the dark, watery depths. He quickly pushed the thought away. They had bigger problems than his claustrophobic tendencies.
