Chapter 9
A Moment of Truce
The shark, momentarily distracted by the released tuna, pauses its relentless pursuit. Elias seizes this fleeting opportunity to escape.
The salt spray stung Elias’s face, a sharp, invigorating slap that did little to calm the frantic thumping in his chest. The tuna, a magnificent, silver-blue behemoth, still thrashed in the net, its powerful tail sending tremors through the hull of the *Sea Serpent*. But it was the shadow that truly held his attention, a vast, undulating darkness that had emerged from the depths with terrifying speed. The shark. It was a leviathan, its scarred hide rippling, its eyes ancient and predatory.

The shark circled, a silent, graceful terror, its movements deceptively slow, impossibly deliberate. Elias gripped the tiller, his knuckles white, his breath catching in his throat. He could feel the vibration of the tuna’s struggle through the soles of his worn boots, a frantic pulse against the rising tide of his own fear. The shark surged, its massive jaws opening, revealing rows of serrated teeth. It was a primal instinct, a hunger that defied reason.
