Chapter 4
A Hunter's Vengeance
The shark, denied its meal, turns its predatory attention to Elias and his boat. A terrifying pursuit begins as the predator relentlessly chases the fisherman.
The salty spray kissed Elias’s weathered face, a familiar caress that belied the gnawing unease in his gut. The sun, a molten coin, was beginning its slow descent, painting the western sky in hues of bruised plum and fiery orange. His net, heavy with the promise of a magnificent bluefin tuna, thrummed against the hull of the *Sea Serpent*. This was it, the catch of a lifetime, a behemoth that had fought with the fury of a trapped god. He’d wrestled it, his muscles screaming, his knuckles raw, finally hauling the shimmering, muscular form aboard.
But the victory was short-lived. A shadow, vast and sleek, had emerged from the deepening twilight. A great white, its dorsal fin a cruel sickle slicing through the water, had been lurking, its predatory gaze fixed on Elias’s prize. Before Elias could even register the danger, the shark had lunged, a torpedo of muscle and teeth, tearing a ragged chunk from the tuna’s flank. Elias had shouted, a primal sound of outrage, and in that instant, the shark’s attention had shifted. From the fallen prey to the defiant fisherman.
Now, the *Sea Serpent* was no longer a vessel of bounty, but a fragile toy bobbing in the path of something ancient and terrifying. The shark, a relentless, unblinking hunter, was no longer interested in the tuna. It was interested in Elias. The water, moments before a canvas of shimmering beauty, had transformed into a churning vortex of primal fear. Elias could feel the vibrations through the soles of his worn boots, a low, guttural hum that spoke of immense power. He saw the flash of its pale belly, the dark, vacant eyes that held no recognition, only an insatiable hunger.
