The air thrummed with a different kind of energy now. It wasn't the vibrant hum of life that had characterized the land for generations, but a restless, metallic buzz, an insistent gnawing. Kicking Bear stood on a rise, the wind whipping his hair, and watched the endless serpent of wagons crawl across the plains. Each one a wound, a scar etched into the earth that his people had held sacred for time immemorial. He saw the grass flattened, the streams muddied, the herds of antelope scattering in panicked flight. It was more than just passage; it was an invasion, a relentless march that seemed to consume everything in its path.

He remembered the elders speaking of ancient paths, woven with the wisdom of seasons and the silent understanding of the land. These paths, they said, were for walking, for hunting, for gathering, for living in balance. It was a fire of indignation, of a deep-seated rage that simmered beneath the surface of his stoic demeanor. He spoke with the other young warriors, their faces etched with the same growing unease. They shared observations, whispered their fears, and a shared resolve began to harden within their ranks. This was not just about defending hunting grounds; it was about defending their very existence, their heritage, the sacred covenant between their people and the land.
