The Architect's Design
The hidden organization's reach becomes terrifyingly clear. They learn of their parents' desperate attempts to protect them and the elaborate plan that led to their separation.
The city, usually a cacophony of sirens and distant shouts, seemed to hold its breath. A heavy silence had descended, thick and suffocating, pressing down on Jessie and his makeshift family. They huddled in the dusty back room of the abandoned warehouse, the flickering light of a single bulb casting dancing shadows that warped the familiar into something alien. The air crackled with an unspoken dread, a premonition that coiled in their guts like a venomous snake.
“They know,” Kai whispered, her voice barely audible, her eyes wide and dark as she stared at the grimy concrete floor. “They know we’re looking.”
Amy, usually the calm center of their storm, was hunched over a salvaged laptop, her fingers flying across the keyboard with a frantic energy that belied her usual caution. “The encrypted files… Mr. Smith was hiding something big. Something about… a project. ‘Project Chimera’.” Her voice trembled. “It’s not just about us, Jessie. It’s about… about a whole network.”
