The worn leather of Bilal’s notebook felt familiar beneath his fingertips, a comforting weight in the oppressive silence of the archives. Dust motes danced in the single shaft of sunlight that pierced the gloom, illuminating rows upon rows of forgotten histories. He’d been here for hours, surrounded by the hushed whispers of paper and the faint, musty scent of time. The symbol – a jagged circle with three intersecting lines, like a stylized eye or a broken star – had been the only constant thread in the recent disappearances.
