A Royal Welcome
News of Lyra's quest reaches his kingdom. He is met with cheers and relief, his return a beacon of hope against the encroaching Weinach.
The familiar silhouette of Silverwood Castle rose against the twilight sky, a warm, welcoming beacon after weeks of dusty roads and shadowed forests. My heart, which had been afluttering bird for so long, began to settle in my chest, a gentle thrum of belonging. Even from a distance, I could hear it – a murmur that grew into a swell of sound, a wave of joyous shouts crashing against the castle walls. They knew. News of my return, and perhaps of the artifact, had somehow outpaced me, carried on the wind like dandelion seeds.
As we drew closer, the drawbridge creaked open, a wide, wooden smile greeting us. Torches flared to life along the battlements, painting the stone in flickering shades of orange and gold. Guards, their polished armor gleaming, lined the courtyard, their usual stern expressions softened by an undeniable relief. And then I saw them, spilling out from the castle gates, a sea of familiar faces. My people.
A cheer erupted, a thunderous sound that made me halt my horse, my breath catching in my throat. Children, their faces alight with wonder, dashed forward, their laughter echoing. Adults, their hands clasped in prayer or raised in a triumphant salute, surged behind them. I saw my father, King Theron, standing at the top of the castle steps, his face etched with a weariness I hadn’t noticed before, but his eyes, when they met mine, were brimming with a love that made my knees feel weak. Beside him stood my mother, Queen Anya, her hand pressed to her heart, a silent testament to the worry she must have endured.
