The garden, usually a symphony of soft rustles and gentle chirps under the moon’s watchful eye, seemed to hold its breath. A sudden chill, not of the night air, but of something far more unsettling, snaked its way through the dewy grass. Mano, who had been mesmerized by Lumi’s dance, felt a prickle of unease crawl up his spine. The air grew heavy, the vibrant colors of the night fading into a duller, more muted palette.

He looked around, his bright eyes scanning the familiar bushes and flowerbeds, but something was different. A darkness, deeper and more substantial than the usual shadows cast by the moon, was creeping from the edge of the garden. It wasn't just the absence of light; it was a presence, a formless void that seemed to absorb the very essence of the night. It moved with an unnerving fluidity, not like wind or a creature, but like spilled ink spreading across a canvas.

Lumi, who had been flitting playfully around Mano’s head, suddenly stilled. Its gentle, rhythmic pulsing, so full of joy moments before, faltered. The light flickered, dimming to a faint, anxious glow. It darted closer to Mano, its tiny body trembling. Mano could feel Lumi’s fear, a cold dread that mirrored his own rising apprehension.
