The air shimmered, not with the usual desert heat, but with an internal, almost sentient luminescence. Elias stood at the precipice of Mirage Lane, the spectral street pulsing before him like a phantom limb of reality. He had seen the entity, felt its chilling, benevolent presence, its argument for oblivion as the ultimate kindness. Now, it offered him its prize.

Across the impossibly green lawn, bathed in the golden light of an eternal afternoon, stood a woman. She looked, and felt, like Lily. Not the scraped-knee, giggling girl he remembered, but a woman sculpted from his deepest desires – radiant, serene, her eyes holding a warmth that Elias hadn't felt directed at him in decades. She was smiling, a gentle, knowing curve of her lips, as if she’d been waiting for him.

"Elias," she said, her voice a melody he’d long forgotten, yet instantly recognized. It was Lily’s voice, softened by time and an impossible peace. "You found me."
