Chapter 8
Echoes of the Forgotten Temple
Guided by ancient markings, they discover a hidden temple, its stones worn by time. Within its crumbling walls, they find clues to the Jade Paw's location, guarded by riddles of the past.
The air in the Silent Peaks grew thin, but Luna’s resolve, fueled by the faint, pearlescent glow of the moon, remained as steady as the ancient stones beneath her paws. Elder Whiskerwind’s words, etched into her memory like constellations, guided her steps. “The markings, child,” he had rumbled, his voice like the rustling of autumn leaves, “they are echoes of a forgotten path, a whisper from the very bones of this land.”
Jasper, ever watchful, trod close behind, his tail twitching with a mixture of unease and determination. The jagged peaks, usually alive with the chirping of unseen birds and the scuttling of small creatures, were eerily silent. Even the wind seemed to hold its breath, as if respecting the solemnity of their quest. Willow, her lithe form a flicker of movement against the grey rock, was ahead, her keen eyes scanning the rough terrain.
“Here!” Willow’s voice, usually bright, was hushed with awe. She pointed a delicate paw towards a section of cliff face that seemed no different from the rest. But Luna, remembering Elder Whiskerwind’s description, felt a prickle of excitement. Faint, almost invisible etchings, were indeed there, worn smooth by centuries of wind and rain. They depicted stylized waves, swirling celestial bodies, and what looked like a paw print, intricately woven into the design.
