Luna’s heart thrummed a nervous rhythm against her ribs, a frantic hummingbird trapped in a cage of fur. Elder Whiskerwind’s words, ancient and heavy with prophecy, still echoed in the quietude of her small den, a stark contrast to the familiar rustle of leaves and the distant scent of night-blooming jasmine. Her paws felt strangely heavy, rooted to the worn straw mat as if the very ground beneath her wished to hold her back, to keep her safe within the comforting embrace of her childhood home. To leave… the thought sent a shiver, not entirely of cold, through her small body.

So utterly inadequate for the vast, terrifying journey Elder Whiskerwind had described. A journey to find the Jade Paw, an artifact of legend, whispered about in hushed tones, said to hold the very essence of the Whispering Wind Kingdom’s light.
