Sadie, ever the supportive partner, had readily agreed to accompany him, her detective’s curiosity piqued by the exotic locale.
“It is,” Hans agreed, his gaze lingering on her. Her enthusiasm was infectious, a bright spark against the ever-present darkness he navigated. He had never pictured himself here, sharing such a moment with anyone, let alone a woman who saw through his carefully constructed masks. The age gap, a nagging worry that had surfaced in his mind, seemed to melt away under the Dutch sun. What mattered was the shared laughter, the easy companionship, the way her eyes lit up when she discovered something new.
