Aris Thorne stood at the edge of the orc settlement, his gaze sweeping over the familiar, yet now profoundly changed, scene. The hurried movements of the last few days had given way to a more deliberate pace. Orcs moved through their stone dwellings, their guttural calls softened by a newfound resonance. Children, once hidden away, now played in the open, their laughter echoing with an innocence that had seemed impossible just days before.
Grak approached, his massive frame moving with a surprising grace. The ancient orc’s eyes, usually sharp and assessing, held a placid depth. He carried two steaming mugs, the aroma of roasted herbs filling the crisp morning air. He offered one to Aris, the rough ceramic warm against his chilled fingers.
“The storm has passed,” Grak rumbled, his voice still a deep vibration, but now laced with a gentle cadence Aris had come to cherish. He nodded towards the settlement. “And the seeds we planted are beginning to sprout.”
