The Confrontation
Valerius makes his move, attempting to seize control. Aris and his allies must stand against him, their nascent alliance tested under fire.
The air in the clearing crackled, not with the usual hum of insect wings or the rustle of leaves, but with a tense silence that pressed in on Aris. He stood beside Grak, his heart a frantic drum against his ribs, as Commander Valerius and his soldiers emerged from the dense foliage, their armor gleaming with an unnatural harshness under the dappled sunlight. Valerius’s face was set in a grim mask, his eyes, sharp and cold, swept over the assembled orcs and Aris alike.
“Dr. Thorne,” Valerius’s voice was like stones grinding together, devoid of warmth. “I see you’ve been quite busy entertaining the locals.”
Aris stepped forward, placing himself slightly in front of Grak, a gesture that spoke volumes to the orcs gathered. “Commander Valerius, this is not a place for your soldiers. We are engaged in peaceful discourse.”
