The espresso machine, that monstrous, chrome beast that had become both my nemesis and my closest confidante, chose that particular Tuesday to unleash its full fury. It wasn't just a regular Tuesday, mind you. It was the Tuesday. The Tuesday Jake Echa, my Jake Echa, had a standing reservation for his usual oat milk latte with an extra shot, precisely at 2 PM. And here I was, armed with a damp rag and a heart doing a frantic drum solo against my ribs.

"Echa, you're practically vibrating," Chloe’s voice, laced with her usual brand of affectionate mockery, cut through my internal panic. She was perched on a stool by the counter, nursing a lukewarm iced tea and looking far too composed for someone witnessing a potential train wreck. "Try to breathe. It's just coffee. Not, you know, a live grenade."

"Easy for you to say," I hissed back, my eyes darting to the clock. 1:58 PM. Two minutes. Two agonizingly short minutes until the man who occupied 98.7% of my waking thoughts walked through that door. "This isn't just 'just coffee,' Chloe. This is Jake Echa's coffee. And if I mess this up, if I accidentally pour oat milk on his designer jacket or, heaven forbid, serve it to him with a rogue hair, my life as I know it will cease to exist."
