The Dragon's Roar
The air in the vast chamber was thick, heavy with the scent of ancient dust and something else… something primal and terrifying. It was the smell of Ignis, the dragon, a smell that clung to the very stones of this mountain and promised a swift, fiery end to any fool who dared disturb its slumber. My heart hammered against my ribs like a trapped bird, a frantic rhythm that seemed to echo in the cavernous space. Beside me, Bowen’s hand found mine, his grip firm and reassuring, a silent anchor in the rising tide of my fear.
“We’re here,” he murmured, his voice a low rumble that barely disturbed the oppressive quiet.
I nodded, my eyes wide as I took in the sight before us. It was more magnificent, and more terrifying, than any tale had ever described. Mountains of gold coins, glittering jewels of every conceivable hue, ornate weapons encrusted with gems, and ancient artifacts that seemed to pulse with a faint, forgotten magic – all of it lay sprawled beneath the immense, scaled form of Ignis. The dragon was a colossal beast, its scales the colour of a dying ember, each one larger than my shield. Its head rested on a pile of treasure, a dark, serpentine shape against the dazzling hoard. It slept, a creature of myth and destruction, its slumber the only thing keeping us alive.
