Jasper’s tail twitched, a nervous habit he usually kept hidden beneath a veneer of gruff confidence. He watched Luna from the edge of the Sunstone Village, her small frame silhouetted against the fading light of the amethyst moon. Elder Whisperwind’s words, spoken with the quiet weight of ages, still echoed in his ears. A prophecy. A hero. A lost artifact. It all felt so… grand. So unlike the simple, sun-drenched days of chasing butterflies and napping in warm meadows that had defined their lives until now.
He padded forward, his paws sinking slightly into the soft earth. Luna was gazing towards the jagged peaks of the Shadow Mountains, her brow furrowed. The air around her seemed to shimmer, a faint, almost imperceptible glow that Jasper had never noticed before. He’d always thought her a little different, a little more sensitive to the world’s subtle currents, but this was something else.
“Luna?” he said, his voice a little rougher than he intended.
