The wind, once a gentle caress against her skin, now felt like a mournful sigh through the skeletal branches of the ancient oak. Elara sat beneath its gnarled arms, the rough bark a familiar comfort against her back. Her wings, still heavy with an unseen sorrow, remained folded, a constant reminder of what had been lost. The world around her pulsed with a quiet life – the rustle of unseen creatures, the distant murmur of a stream, the scent of damp earth and pine. But within her, a storm still raged, a tempest born of betrayal.

“I forgive, but I don’t forget the lessons learned,” she whispered, the words carried away by the breeze. It was a mantra she clung to, a fragile shield against the echoes of pain. She gave grace, yes, but the access to her inner world was no longer a free-flowing river. It was a carefully guarded oasis, its waters precious, its entry restricted. She loved hard, fiercely, but the tolerance for disrespect had withered, like leaves in an early frost.
