The air grew heavy, thick with an ancient, slumbering power that prickled my skin from the inside out. Every step forward felt like wading through a dream, the world around us shifting in subtle, unsettling ways. The trees, once vibrant and alive, now twisted into skeletal forms, their branches clawing at a sky the color of bruised plums. Even the silence here was different—a taut, expectant hush that seemed to hold its breath, waiting.

"Are you sure this is it, Bowen?" Maya's voice was a fragile thread in the oppressive quiet. She clutched Drake's arm, her knuckles white.

Bowen scanned the desolate landscape, his gaze sharp, missing nothing. "The readings are strongest here. The ley lines converge, and the ambient magic… it hums with a familiar resonance. The Shard is close." He didn't sound entirely convinced, a subtle tension coiling in his shoulders that I’d come to recognize. It was the same tension he wore when facing an unknown threat, a silent acknowledgment of the danger that always lurked at the edges of this world.
