Episode 41

The air in the encampment hung thick with a somber quietude, a stark contrast to the vibrant energy that had pulsed through it just weeks before. The ghosts of Wounded Knee still danced in the periphery of their vision, their silent screams a constant hum beneath the surface of their forced calm. The buffalo, once the lifeblood of their existence, were now a memory, their herds scattered, their plains scarred by the relentless march of the white man. We carry it within us, in our hearts, in our blood.” Swift Wind coughed, a weak, rasping sound that tore at Buffalo Woman’s soul. She remembered a time when the prairie pulsed with life, when the thunder of hooves was a lullaby, and the vastness of the land promised an endless future. Now, that future was a fragile thing, held together by the fraying threads of memory and the unwavering strength of those who remembered.
