Chapter 7
The Crumbling Sanctuary
The battle rages, destabilizing the ancient temple. Rocks fall, and chasms open. Conley, having bested Silas, must now escape the collapsing structure with the artifact, the weight of its power pressing upon him.
The cavernous chamber groaned, a pained exhalation of ancient stone. Dust, thick as a shroud, billowed from newly formed fissures that spiderwebbed across the once-solid ceiling. Conley, his chest heaving, felt the tremor deep in his bones. “Time to go,” he muttered, his voice raspy. The air itself seemed to thicken, charged with an unseen energy. He sprinted towards the entrance he’d so painstakingly navigated, the path now a treacherous obstacle course of falling debris. A massive stone slab, dislodged from the ceiling, crashed down behind him, narrowly missing his heels. The shrieking of tortured rock echoed in his ears, a symphony of destruction.
