Chapter 5
Spirit Path Convergence
Tara discovers an ancient Spirit Path near the river. She senses a profound wrongness, a spiritual disturbance connected to the church's reappearance.
The air hung thick and humid, clinging to Jennifer’s skin like a second, unwelcome layer. The Buffalo River, usually a ribbon of jade and sapphire, had swollen into a muddy, churning beast, its waters the color of spoiled milk. Jennifer followed her gaze. The river had receded, not entirely, but enough to reveal a sight that defied logic, a sight that had sent shivers down her spine since they’d first heard the whispers from Cole. Partially submerged, its stone walls slick with river slime and draped in trailing moss, stood the skeletal remains of a church. It was a phantom, a specter dredged from the watery depths, its skeletal steeple reaching towards a bruised sky.
