The air in Eleanor Vance’s office was thick with the scent of expensive leather and the faint, lingering aroma of stale coffee. Anya sat opposite the formidable agent, her heart a frantic hummingbird against her ribs. Sunlight, filtered through the blinds, striped the room in shades of gold and shadow, much like the flickering film reel of her own tumultuous Hollywood journey. Eleanor, perched behind her immense mahogany desk, was a study in controlled power, her sharp eyes missing nothing.
“So,” Eleanor began, her voice a low, gravelly rumble that could strip paint or soothe a frayed nerve, Anya wasn’t sure which. “Marcus Thorne. You know who he is?”
Anya nodded, her throat suddenly dry. Marcus Thorne. The name alone conjured images of brooding intensity on screen, of leading man charisma that had Hollywood buzzing. He was the kind of actor Anya had dreamed of working with, the kind of role that could catapult her from the endless parade of waitressing shifts and cattle-call auditions into something real.
