Chapter 6
The Divided Flock
Silas guides Anya to a community of believers. However, she finds them embroiled in heated arguments, their faith fractured by pride and misunderstanding.
Silas’s nimble fingers guided Anya through a labyrinth of narrow alleys, the midday sun a distant memory. The clamor of the marketplace, once a comforting drone, now seemed a world away. They moved like shadows, their footsteps muffled by the dust and discarded refuse. Anya’s heart thumped a rhythm against her ribs, a mixture of excitement and trepidation. Silas, usually so stoic, had a flicker of urgency in his eyes. "We are close," he murmured, his voice a low rumble that barely disturbed the oppressive silence. "But be warned, child. A moment later, the door creaked open, revealing not a welcoming smile, but a scene of utter disarray.
Inside, a large, sparsely furnished room pulsed with a chaotic energy. Sunlight streamed through high, grimy windows, illuminating dust motes dancing in the agitated air. But it wasn’t the dust that caught Anya’s attention; it was the people. A dozen or so individuals, dressed in simple tunics, were engaged in a furious debate. Voices rose and fell like crashing waves, each speaker trying to drown out the others.
