The city hummed its usual lullaby, a symphony of distant sirens and the low rumble of traffic, but for Liam, it was a discordant noise. Restlessness, a familiar phantom, had settled deep within his bones, urging him towards the anonymity of the night. He found himself, as he often did when the world felt too small and his own life too predictable, at The Velvet Hour. The club, a sanctuary of shadows and hushed conversations, promised an escape, a temporary dissolution of the mundane. The air was thick with the cloying scent of expensive perfume and something else, something primal and intriguing. He drifted through the crowd, a ghost in search of a tangible anchor, until his gaze snagged on a corner booth, shrouded in deeper gloom. And there she was.

Maya.

The name, when it surfaced in his mind, felt both intimate and shocking, a whispered heresy. He’d known her for years, a fleeting presence at Mark’s barbecues, a blur of youthful exuberance he’d always seen as Mark’s kid sister. Sweet, a little shy, with a mischievous glint in her eyes that he’d never truly registered until now. Tonight, however, she was entirely different. The soft lighting of the club did little to soften the sharp edges of her allure. Her dress, a slip of midnight silk, clung to her like a second skin, revealing curves that his mind had never dared to map. Her dark hair cascaded around her shoulders, framing a face that held a captivating blend of innocence and knowing. She was a siren, beckoning him from the precipice of his own carefully constructed world.
