The scooter, a cheerful red Vespa that Baba Yaga had christened "The Crimson Comet," hummed a steady tune as it carried them deeper into the valley. The air grew cooler, carrying the scent of damp earth and something vaguely floral, like forgotten perfume. Anya, perched precariously behind Baba Yaga, clutched her shawl tighter, her eyes wide as she scanned the landscape. Towering cliffs, draped in moss and ancient trees, rose on either side, their peaks lost in a soft, hazy mist. It was beautiful, undeniably so, but it held a quiet, almost mournful quality.
“It’s… peaceful,” Anya ventured, her voice a mere whisper against the wind.
Baba Yaga, her silver hair a wild halo against the sky, grinned, her eyes crinkling at the corners. “Peaceful is for doilies and knitting circles, Anya. This place… this place has a different kind of song.”
