Chapter 10
The Scarred Dawn
The alpha wave recedes, its power broken. The world is left scarred, forever changed, but humanity is saved. Michael stands amidst the ruins, the cost of victory etched upon his soul.
The suffocating pressure in the air began to recede, not with a sudden snap, but with a slow, agonizing exhale. The unnatural luminescence that had painted the sky in hues of sickly violet and bruised purple faded, leaving behind a sky that was, in its own way, more terrifying in its stark, ordinary blue. It was a weariness of the soul, a deep, bone-marrow fatigue born from the relentless onslaught, from the constant, gnawing doubt that had been his shadow, from the sheer weight of carrying the world’s hope on his shoulders. He had faced the abyss, stared into the eyes of pure, unadulterated malice, and had not flinched. Or rather, he had flinched, he had faltered, he had nearly broken, but in the end, he had found the strength to stand.
