A path guarded by fearsome monster bears blocks their way. The children, using their newfound courage and working together, find a clever way to pass without confrontation.
The air grew heavy, thick with the scent of damp earth and something musky, something wild. Elmsworth, his ancient eyes scanning the dense thicket ahead, held up a gnarled hand. "Halt, young ones," he murmured, his voice a low rumble like distant thunder. "A challenge lies before us."
Lily, her heart thrumming a nervous rhythm against her ribs, peered through the tangled branches. The path, once a faint trace, had vanished entirely, replaced by a wall of ancient, moss-covered trees. But it wasn't just the trees that made her breath catch. A low, guttural growl, a sound that vibrated deep in her bones, echoed from somewhere within the gloom.
"Monster bears," Maya whispered, her hand instinctively finding Tom’s. Even Lumina, usually so serene, seemed to shimmer with a heightened intensity, her glow pulsing like a worried heartbeat.
