The air in the Crystal Caves grew heavy, thick with an unseen pressure that pressed in on Elara, Finn, and Kael. The echoing drips of melting ice that had accompanied them through the shimmering caverns now seemed to mock their progress, each sound a tiny hammer blow against their dwindling courage. They had followed the faint, pulsing light, the whisper of a legend, deeper into the earth than any had dared before, but the Lumina Steed remained elusive. Instead, they found themselves at the threshold of a vast, obsidian chamber, a stark contrast to the crystalline beauty they had just left. The only light emanated from a swirling mist at the chamber's center, a mist that seemed to churn with an inner, troubled glow.
“This is… different,” Finn murmured, his hand instinctively going to the hilt of the sturdy, ice-hardened sword he carried. His eyes, usually so clear and steady, darted around the cavern, searching for threats that weren’t immediately apparent.
Kael, ever the observer, stepped closer to the mist, his brow furrowed in thought. “It feels… watchful. Like the cave itself is holding its breath.” He reached out a tentative hand, but Elara’s voice, laced with a sudden, sharp concern, stopped him.
