“You cannot go, little bloom,” Elara’s voice, a silken rustle of leaves, echoed softly in Isabella’s mind. “Your presence would only fuel their fear, their righteous anger.”

Isabella’s fingers, usually so adept at coaxing life from the soil, trembled. “But to be separated… to be cast out… it feels like a death, Elara.”
