Chapter 9
Ben's Burden of Blame

It was a silence that screamed of what was lost, a gaping wound where vibrant life had once pulsed. For Maya, Ben, and the two remaining members of their ill-fated expedition, Liam and Sarah, every creak of the decaying floorboards, every distant, guttural moan, felt like a fresh accusation. His gaze kept returning to the shadowed hallway beyond, as if expecting to see Chloe’s vacant eyes staring back, a constant, gnawing reminder of their failed escape.
"We can't just sit here, Maya," he rasped, his voice raw. "We have to do something. We have to fight back."
