The air in the Sunken Garden hummed, a vibrant symphony of colors and scents that was a universe away from the hushed, muted tones of my family’s estate. Here, beneath a sky that seemed to hold onto the last blush of sunset, roses bloomed in every shade imaginable – fiery scarlets, deep indigos, even hues I’d never seen before, like shimmering emerald and molten gold. And in the center of it all, a place that felt both ancient and utterly new, stood the Heart of Rebellion.
It wasn't a building, not in the way I understood buildings. It was more of a living sculpture, woven from ancient trees whose branches snaked and intertwined to form archways and alcoves, their bark etched with symbols that pulsed with a soft, inner light. Flowers, impossibly bright and fragrant, spilled from every crevice, their petals catching the fading light like scattered jewels. This was where the Guardian had led me, through a maze of whispering hedges and beneath waterfalls that sang with a language of their own.
“This is it, Elara,” the Guardian’s voice, a gentle rustle of leaves, echoed around me. “The place where true colors are not only allowed, but celebrated.”
