The air in the town hall buzzed with a nervous energy that Elara could feel vibrating in her very bones. It was a symphony of rustling aprons, hushed whispers, and the distant, tantalizing aroma of baked goods. Her blueberry pie, nestled regally on the judging table, seemed to glow under the harsh fluorescent lights, a testament to the chaotic, flour-dusted journey that had brought it here. Liam, a few tables down, offered a small, almost imperceptible nod, his own creation – a deceptively simple apple crumble – radiating an aura of quiet confidence. Even just standing here, waiting for the results, felt like an audition for a role she’d never auditioned for. She risked a glance at Liam. He was watching her, a faint smile playing on his lips. It wasn't smugness, not anymore. It was something softer, a shared understanding.
