Kael prided himself on his polished, unblemished gum form. It was a testament to his unwavering discipline, his adherence to the ancient ways. Each day, I watched him from across the Grand Atrium, his movements precise, his pronouncements echoing with the authority of generations. But even his perfect exterior was starting to show the strain. Faint, hairline fractures, like spiderwebs spun from despair, were beginning to spiderweb across his chest, a subtle but undeniable testament to the rot that was seeping into our world.

He was so convinced that Anya’s strange, unpredictable talent was the source of our woes. “It’s unnatural,” he’d declared to Elder Rhubard, his voice tight with disapproval, just yesterday. “This… *gazing* she does. It disrupts the harmony. It’s the reason the Great Gum is weakening!” His own gum form, a deep, stoic navy, seemed to ripple with his conviction.

Today, however, Kael’s conviction was wavering. The Grand Atrium, usually a vibrant tapestry of shifting emotions, was muted. The air itself felt heavy, thick with a palpable sorrow that even Kael’s rigid composure couldn't entirely mask. The Great Gum, the colossal sculpture that represented the heart of our Dynasty, pulsed with a sickly, dull light. It was no longer a beacon of joy and stability, but a monument to our slow, agonizing decay.
