Chapter 4
A Test of Courage
Doubtful whispers and Willow's own fears test her resolve. She must decide if she's brave enough to accept the immense responsibility the acorn demands.
The air in the Whispering Woods had grown heavy, thick with unspoken questions and the prickle of unease. Willow, tucked away in her moss-lined hollow, clutched the shimmering acorn. "Still got that… that shiny thing?" Willow had nodded, her grip tightening on the acorn, which she kept carefully concealed within a pouch woven from soft leaves. "It’s important, Flicker. Professor Hoot said so." Flicker had snorted, a puff of dust rising from her fur. "Professor Hoot says a lot of things, Willow. But this… this feels different. The way the shadows seem to stretch when you walk past, the way the birds fall silent. It’s unsettling."
