As Elias trains, the sky itself seems to respond. Constellations subtly alter their positions, a phenomenon unnoticed by most, but deeply concerning to Valerius. The cosmic balance is indeed changing.
The air in Master Valerius’s observatory was thick with the scent of aged parchment and the faint, metallic tang of stardust. Elias, his brow furrowed in concentration, traced the faint lines of a celestial chart, his fingers clumsy yet surprisingly precise. The familiar comfort of the night sky, once a source of simple wonder, now felt like a complex tapestry woven with threads he was only just beginning to perceive. He’d spent weeks under Valerius’s tutelage, his days a blur of ancient texts and his nights spent gazing upwards, trying to decipher the language of the cosmos.
“The Great Bear,” Valerius’s voice, a dry rustle like leaves skittering across stone, broke the silence. “Observe its position. Now, look at the chart from three nights ago. What do you see?”
Elias’s gaze shifted from the parchment to the vast, inky canvas outside the observatory dome. The stars, usually steadfast companions in his nightly vigil, seemed to shimmer with an unusual intensity. He squinted, his heart giving a peculiar lurch. “It… it looks different, Master. Ursa Major. The tail… it seems a little… higher?”
