The air in the labyrinth was thick, cloying, and tasted of damp earth and forgotten fears. Marcus Bellweather, usually the picture of stoic calm, felt a tremor run through him, one that had nothing to do with the crumbling stone beneath his boots. He’d been here before, or somewhere like it. The oppressive darkness pressed in, not just the absence of light, but a tangible weight that seemed to whisper secrets he desperately wanted to forget.

“Anything, Marcus?” Eva’s voice, sharp and clipped, cut through the suffocating silence. She was a few paces ahead, her hand resting on the butt of her sidearm, her eyes scanning the featureless walls.

He forced a breath, the metallic tang of fear sharp on his tongue. “Just… more of the same. Walls. Dark. It feels… familiar.” He hated the waver in his voice. Familiar? This was more than familiar. This was a phantom limb ache, a ghost of a memory clawing its way to the surface.
