The weight of her own impulsive words pressed down on Sachi, a heavy blanket smothering the usual lightness in her chest. She traced the rim of her teacup, the porcelain cool against her fingertips, a stark contrast to the heat that had flared between them earlier. The silence in Christian’s study, usually a comfortable shared space filled with the scent of old books and his quiet presence, now felt vast and echoing. He sat across from her, his gaze steady, not accusatory, but undeniably observant. It was this quiet observation, this patient waiting, that pricked at her conscience more than any raised voice could have.

"Christian," she began, her voice barely a whisper, cracking slightly. She cleared her throat, trying again. "Christian, I… I'm so, so sorry." The apology felt inadequate, a tiny pebble tossed into a chasm of hurt she had created. She looked up, meeting his eyes, and saw the familiar warmth there, now tinged with a gentle sadness. "I was stupid. And selfish. I let my silly fears get the better of me, and I said… awful things."

He offered a faint smile, a subtle softening around his mouth. "I know you were upset, Sachi. But 'awful' is a strong word."
