The air inside the labyrinth was thick, not with dust or damp, but with a kind of charged stillness, like the hush before a storm. It hummed, a low, resonant thrum that vibrated not just in my ears, but in the very marrow of my bones. The stones beneath my feet, rough and uneven, seemed to pulse with a life of their own. I clutched the faded map tighter, its parchment warm against my palm, a comforting anchor in this disorienting space.

The entrance behind me had vanished, not with a crash or a groan, but a silent, seamless assimilation into the stone. Where the gaping maw of the doorway had been, now stood a solid, unyielding wall, indistinguishable from the rest. A shiver traced its way down my spine, not entirely of fear, but of a profound awe. This was no mere construction of rock and mortar; it was alive.

The map, which had seemed so straightforward just moments before, now felt like a cryptic puzzle. The lines and symbols, once clear, seemed to waver, as if the ink itself was caught in the labyrinth’s subtle dance. I traced a path with my finger, then looked up, trying to match it to the winding passages that stretched before me. But the passages… they weren’t static. I’d swear the corridor to my left, a moment ago a narrow, shadowed slit, had widened, and the one to my right, which had been bathed in a soft, ethereal glow, was now shrouded in an impenetrable darkness.
