With provisions packed and the map clutched tight, Elara sets off on her adventure. The initial steps are filled with a mix of excitement and trepidation as she leaves the familiar behind.
The early morning air, still cool and carrying the faint scent of dew-kissed earth, felt like a promise whispered against my skin. Beside me, Mother’s hand rested on my shoulder, a familiar, comforting weight. The worn leather satchel, packed with dried fruit, a loaf of dense bread, a waterskin, and the precious, crinkled map, felt both heavy and light against my back. Heavy with the weight of the unknown, light with the anticipation of what lay beyond.
“You have everything, my dear?” Her voice was soft, like the rustle of autumn leaves, laced with that gentle concern that always made my heart ache a little.
I nodded, my fingers tracing the faded ink of the map, tucked safely in a linen pouch. “Yes, Mother. Everything.” The words felt inadequate, a flimsy shield against the vastness that was about to swallow me.
