Eleanor traced the faded blue line of the river with a fingertip, the paper cool and slightly rough beneath her skin. It wasn't the familiar, comforting texture of the atlas she knew; this map felt different, newer, yet impossibly ancient. The ink was a deep, rich black, unlike the sepia tones of the other maps, and the script, though elegant, was unfamiliar. It spoke of a place called the 'Sunken City of Aeridor,' a name that tickled at the edges of her memory like a half-forgotten dream. How could she remember a place she'd never been?
A shiver, not entirely of cold, traced its way down her spine. The inscription, penned in that same striking black ink, was what had drawn her in. It wasn't a place name or a geographic marker, but a riddle, woven with words that seemed to hum with a hidden meaning:
