The air in the garden hung thick and sweet, a cloying perfume that pressed against Elara’s lungs. It was a place born of her deepest longing, a sanctuary conjured from the quiet corners of her mind where peace resided, or so she had imagined. Emerald grass, impossibly lush, carpeted the ground, yielding softly beneath her bare feet. Flowers, vibrant beyond any earthly hue, bloomed in profusion. Roses the color of twilight bled into lilies as pale as dawn, their petals unfurling with a slow, languid grace. Butterflies, their wings dusted with what looked like stardust, flitted between blossoms, their movements silent and ethereal.

It was, on the surface, perfection. Elara breathed it in, a desperate attempt to fill the emptiness that had become so familiar. She had dreamt of such a place, a respite from the encroaching shadows and the disorienting shifts of her reality. Here, the world seemed still, hushed, and for a fleeting moment, she allowed herself to believe it was real.

She reached out, her fingers brushing against the velvety petal of a sapphire-blue rose. It was cool to the touch, impossibly smooth, yet a faint tremor ran through it, a subtle vibration that seemed to echo in her very bones. As she watched, the color deepened, shifting from a vibrant sapphire to an almost bruised indigo. A whisper, soft as a sigh, brushed against her ear.
