The air inside the glasshouse was thick, a humid tapestry woven from the breath of a thousand living things. Elara moved through it like a diver in an alien ocean, the sunlight filtering through the grimy panes casting an ethereal glow on the riot of green. It was here, amidst the dripping leaves and the scent of damp earth, that the fragments of her grandmother’s life began to coalesce. She had expected dust, decay, perhaps a few wizened specimens clinging to life. Instead, she found a world teeming, exhaling its verdant secrets.

Her fingers, still stained with the grime of the neglected estate, brushed against a weathered wooden chest tucked beneath the broad leaves of a giant fern.
